How Google truncates search snippets
Google truncates by pixel width, not character count
A title full of narrow letters (like "iiiii") fits in far more characters than one full of wide letters (like "WWWWW") before Google cuts it off. This tool measures actual rendered text width, the same way Google does, instead of just counting characters.
Titles: ~600px, roughly 50โ60 characters
Once your title's rendered width exceeds about 600 pixels, Google truncates it with an ellipsis โ usually landing somewhere around 50โ60 characters, depending on which letters you used.
Descriptions: ~920px desktop, ~680px mobile
Meta descriptions get more room on desktop (roughly 155โ160 characters) than on mobile (roughly 120 characters), and Google always truncates to the nearest whole word rather than cutting mid-word.
Google occasionally rewrites titles and descriptions in search results based on the page content and search query, and pixel limits can shift over time. This tool estimates truncation using Google's commonly documented desktop and mobile limits โ treat it as a strong guide, not a guarantee of exactly what will show up in search.
